Kannawidan, Intay Rambakan!

The Philippines is full of colorful festivities and celebrations. Some of the famous ones are Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, Sinulog Festival in Cebu City, and Kannawidan Festival in Ilocos Sur. The Kannawidan festival is being celebrated to commemorate the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. This festival showcases the true culture, beliefs, and traditions of the Ilocanos. In this blog, I will accompany you in a journey where you can experience the Kannawidan festival. At the end of the blog, I will also state my opinion on the significance and importance of the Kannawidan Festival and the Philippine festivities in general.

This year, the Kannawidan Festival started on January 28 and ended on February 14, 2023. There were many activities and events conducted in the said festival. Some of these are fireworks display, bonsai exhibit, and battle of the bands. Many people attended the opening of the Kannawidan Festival and was amazed by how lively and colourful the fireworks display was. Meanwhile, the bonsai exhibit made the eyes of the plantitas twinkle out of joy. The battles of the bands also made the aspiring musicians very happy. The festivities surely warmed the hearts of Ilocanos and tourists and made them put on their biggest smile.

The Ilocos Sur's Kannawidan Festival is known for its fun activities, but it is also crucial for the preservation of the cultures and beliefs that are evident in Ilocos. The characteristics of Ilocanos such as being fond in celebrations, being proud of their roots, having music as part of their tradition, and being able to unite to create a beautiful creation are all present in the Kannawidan Festival Celebration 2023. The people who attend the festival have surely learned a lot of lessons and facts about our province - Ilocos Sur. Festivals are not only for entertainment, they are also very useful because they promote the culture of the province or city where it is being conducted. With these, I can conclude that the Kannawidan Festival is really a very important part of our identity as Ilocanos! Kannawidan, intay rambakan! Let us celebrate our heritage!
